Digital Natives Quickfire Challenge

Purpose: To compare & contrast student/teacher perspectives about the complexities of 21st Century education.

You will need:

  • Two groups of 5 and 1 group of 4
  • The creative materials of your choice (mashups, pipe cleaners, Playdough, Post-its, puppets, your own acting skills, etc.)
  • A video camera

  • You have 45 minutes total.

Task A (10 minutes):

Step 1:  Form your groups.

Step 2:  Silently read the article until the mouth picture.

Step 3:  The mouth picture = Stop and say something to a colleague (comment, question, prediction, etc.)

Step 4:  After 2 minutes, continue reading.

Step 5:  Repeat the process until you finish the article (or until the timer dings).

Task B (35 minutes):

Step 1:  Identify 3 key characteristics that distinguish “digital natives” from “digital immigrants.”

Step 2:  Choose a creative way to represent your ideas (acting out scenes, mashing up clips from the web, Playdough, Post-its, puppets, etc.).

Step 3:  Share your ideas in a 1-minute (or less) video.

Step 4:  Your target audience is people who haven’t read the article.

Step 5:  Save your video and upload it to Viddler.com.
