Social Presence

Crafting Your Social Presence

The goal of this first assignment will be to lay the foundation for your social presence.  We are mediating this work in google docs

STEP 1:
Create a google doc called yourlastname_social
(i.e. wolf_social or deschryver_social)

STEP 2:
Share the google doc with deschry2@msu.edu and gravesle@msu.edu

STEP 3:
Sign up for
A blog (details in the lab)
RSS Reader (details in the lab)
Twitter (http://www.twitter.com)

STEP 4:
In the google doc, list the social web tools that you use (or just signed up for) along with your usernames

So, Leigh’s list would look something like this:
blog – http://www.leighgraveswolf.com
RSS Reader – google reader (link to shared items)
Twitter – gravesle
Flickr – http://www.flickr.com/photos/wolfworld
delicious – gravesle
Skype – gravesle

STEP 5:
Answer the following questions.  Be clear in your writing, we expect your writing to be social – you will have an audience for this text.  Pay attention to style and form.

Do you want to have a “personal” presence and a “professional” presence? How will the two differ? If you keep them as one, what are some things you will need to think about as you mediate your online presence?

What expertise to you have to share with the world?

What types of experts and expertise do you want to connect with?

TO SUMMARIZE
Create and share a google doc
List your usernames for your social tools
Write and reflect on the process answering the questions above

FEEDBACK.
You will be receiving brief text feedback on the document by Friday morning and we will have in-class discussions that relate to this activity.  Due to the iterative nature of Google Docs, you can change this text as much as you would like. Eventually when the text is shaped up and you have responded to feedback, you will be posting this on your blog.
