August 18, 2017 • Let’s Celebrate!

Six weeks ago we met each other for the first time. As you found the correct place to park and made your way to Erickson Hall, we are sure you were a bit anxious and excited about what was ahead. You saw the other people in the room and wondered what they would be like. You saw us (the instructors) for the first time and wondered what we had in store for you. After getting an idea of what the courses had in store, we are sure that worries about how to cope with all of your responsibilities (both personal and professional) and the upcoming demands of the coursework, began to stir in your mind. In our first note to you, we commented on how we saw this summer as being an intense and enjoyable experience for all of us to learn together. It has been all that and more.

We have worked, laughed, shared stories, been frustrated and most importantly we had an opportunity to play. Not superficial play but the deep heady kind that comes from an engagement with powerful ideas. And we have come to know each other. To know each other as individuals, unique and different. And yet some common concerns tie us together. We all value learning and education. We share a common goal of becoming better teachers. And most importantly, we share a concern for doing the very best by the children in our care.It has been a wonderful time and now we must go our separate ways. Our memories of this summer will always be with us and we have been changed by the interactions, work, and play we shared this month. We (Danah and Josh) would like to thank each one of you for a wonderfully hectic, challenging, and ultimately invigorating summer. We would like to wish all of you the very best in the future, and hope that you will feel free to keep in touch in your future endeavors.  We’d love to hear from you about how things are going!

We met two weeks ago for the first time. We have covered a lot of ground in these past 10 classes, both technologically and conceptually. We have explored a variety of topics and issues related to teaching and learning. We have covered a range of issues and perspectives—including behavioral, cognitive, situative, developmental, creative and aesthetic aspects of understanding—and discussed various technologies, their affordances, and the related potential for transformative teaching and learning. We hope that you had a fun and educational time. Over the next few weeks, you will be working in individually and in your groups on the remaining assignments. We, the instructors, will be available online to help you as you work on these assignments. We wish you all the best for the summer and look forward to seeing you online over the next four weeks, and face to face on August 18th. The schedule for the next four weeks is as follows:
